Project Overview
MDE is undertaking the electrical installation works for the Irish Rail Drogheda Depot project. This project is a key component in the preparation for the deployment of Battery Electric Multiple Units (BEMUs) as part of the DART+ Coastal North project.
Iarnród Éireann, supported by the National Transport Authority (NTA), is procuring BEMUs to enhance rail services ahead of the full electrification of the Northern Line. Drogheda Station and depot have been identified as the preferred locations for the necessary charging infrastructure and depot modifications.
The BEMU infrastructure works will involve installing train charging facilities and making key modifications to the depot at Drogheda (WP2). These modifications include enhancements to both structural and system components within and outside the depot building.
Scope of Works
MDE’s scope of work for the Irish Rail Drogheda Depot project includes:
- Lighting – Full installation of internal and external lighting systems.
- Emergency Lighting – Implementation of emergency lighting to ensure safety compliance.
- Mains and Sub-Mains Cables – Installation of main and sub-main power cabling to support depot operations.
- Earthing and Bonding – Ensuring a safe and effective grounding system.
- General Services and Small Power – Installation of general power outlets and small power systems.
- Data and Communications – Integration of upgraded Wi-Fi connections and communication systems.
- CCTV – Installation of surveillance systems for enhanced security.
- Building Management System (BMS) – Integration of smart controls for efficient facility management.
- Fire Alarm System – Design and installation of fire alarm systems for safety compliance.
- Shore Supply – Provision of power supply connections for train charging.
- Depot Protection System – Installation of protection systems to ensure safe operations.
- Cable & Containment – Deployment of cable management solutions.
- LV Distribution System (Switchgear) – Installation of switchgear for low-voltage power distribution.
- Electrical and Mechanical Infrastructure Upgrades – Enhancement of electrical and mechanical infrastructure as required.
