Dunhill Substation

Scottish Power embarked on an ambitious programme to generate enough green energy to meet the annual electricity requirements of over 250,000 homes across central and southern Scotland. MDE were appointed as the Electrical Contractor to supply and install electrical installation services to the new 6.2km 132kV Single Circuit, 4 Wire Heavy Duty Wood Pole (HDWP) overhead line between the new 132Kv Windfarm substation at Dersalloch and the new 275/132kV substation at New Cumnock. Conductors are 200mm2 AAAC (Poplar) Conductors and underslung OPGW (Horse equivalent) 70mm2 AACSR/ACS. This project highlighted our ability to successfully resource, manage, and train personnel to work on the Scottish Power’s network infrastructure. The project involved working in adverse weather conditions with high priority health and safety and environmental constraints in place and the need to work in daylight hours.

Challenges and Complexities

  • Adverse weather conditions/location.
  • Restricted access/egress.
  • Health and safety and environment constraints.
  • Management of site deliveries and resources.
  • Programming and daylight working hours.
