Linesman – LV Network Installation & Supervision
About:
MDE Installations Ltd are seeking skilled and experienced Linesmen to join our growing team. This is an exciting opportunity for candidates with strong LV network experience to take on a varied role involving installation, supervision, and commissioning across key UK regions. All travel and accommodation are fully covered.
The Role:
As an LV Linesman, you’ll be responsible for supervising work parties, performing installations and commissioning of LV monitoring devices, conducting live and dead service joints, and ensuring safe and compliant practices across overhead and underground LV networks. You’ll play a key role in maintaining operational standards, safety, and reporting.
Location:
Scotland (Mainland and Islands) & Southern Region of England
Travel and accommodation provided.
Hours of work:
Full-time; hours vary depending on project schedules.
Qualifications:
Candidates must hold or be eligible to obtain the following electrical authorisations:
Cat 1a – Entry to ground-mounted substations (up to 11kV)
Cat 1c – Entry to substations with exposed conductors
Cat 2a – Supervision under LOA
Cat 2d – Accompanying Person for LV live working
Cat 4b/c/e/g/h – Various live working categories (OH, UG, LV panels, testing)
Cat 5c/d – LV switching on overhead and underground networks
Responsibilities:
Supervise work parties under LOA safety documentation
Act as Accompanying Person for live LV work
Install and commission LV monitoring devices at substations and pole-mounted sites
Conduct testing, inspections, and commissioning of connections and upgrades
Complete reports, checklists, and record installation outcomes
Install, maintain, and repair LV OH and UG networks
Carry out live and dead service joints and terminations
Perform LV switching on OH and UG networks
Conduct site inspections and identify faulty equipment
Attend client meetings and provide project documentation
Submit weekly progress updates and maintain records
Essential requirements:
Proven experience working on LV distribution networks (OH and UG)
Knowledge of electrical safety protocols and live working practices
Competency in using commissioning software and LV monitoring tools
Excellent fault-finding and technical troubleshooting skills
Full UK driving licence (or equivalent)
Willing to travel extensively across the UK
Desirable requirements:
Previous authorisation under DNO or IDNO schemes
Familiarity with substation environments and switching procedures
Ability to lead teams and deliver technical updates to clients
