Linesman – Overhead & Underground Networks

MDE Installations Ltd are seeking experienced and qualified Linesmen to join our expanding team. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to progress their career in the power distribution industry, with full travel and accommodation support provided.

The Role:
As a Linesman, you will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing overhead and underground power lines across various UK regions. You’ll work closely with an authorised person and adhere to strict safety protocols, delivering reliable electrical infrastructure to communities.

Location:
Travel across Scotland (Mainland and Islands) and the Southern Region of England.
Travel and accommodation provided.

Hours of work:
Full-time, hours vary based on project needs.

Qualifications:

• Cat 1a – Entry to ground-mounted distribution substations (up to 11kV)

• Cat 2d – Accompanying Person for LV live working

• Full UK Driving Licence (or equivalent)

Responsibilities:

• Install, maintain, and repair overhead and underground power lines

• Erect poles, insulators, crossarms, transformers, and other equipment

• String electrical cables and conductors

• Operate bucket trucks, hydraulic tools, and climbing gear

• Perform emergency repairs and restore power outages

• Interpret technical diagrams and electrical blueprints

• Ensure all work complies with health & safety standards

Essential requirements:

• Previous experience as a Linesman or similar role

• Strong understanding of electricity distribution systems

• Comfortable working at height and in varying weather conditions

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

• Safety-conscious and compliant with industry regulations

• Willingness to travel throughout the UK

Desirable requirements:

• Live-line working certification

• Experience working across different geographic terrains
